Opening The Mind, Empowering The Heart
”You shall love the Lord your God…..with all your mind…” Mark 12:29
In many parts of the world, it is almost impossible for poor children and young people to receive an education. Even if a school is located in their community, many families simply lack the funds needed to pay the required tuition fees or buy books and supplies. So tens of thousands of children who could be educated are forced to work and remain illiterate.
We believe that the lack of a basic education is a primary cause of escalating poverty and infant mortality rates as well as the dramatic rise of human slavery, especially prostitution, worldwide. International Ministries’ short and long-term missionaries are working to reverse this trend.
We do not work alone, but serve with and at the invitation of local Christian partners. More than one tenth of our long-term missionaries are now teaching in schools, mentoring youth through service as dorm parents, and working with children in Christian education and youth ministry.
STEP, our Student Tuition Expense Program, provides tens of thousands of dollars each year to enable poor children to go to school in countries such as Burundi, Togo, Laos, Mexico, Romania and the Dominican Republic. We likewise make grants that start and expand education through vacation Bible schools in Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas.
Cathy Holmes, for example, serves God in India at Woodstock School. She recruits students of different cultures and ethnic backgrounds, while also helping them learn about Christ and grow in faith.
Let’s work together.
Support the work of missionaries giving children opportunity through education.
Prepare and share a Vacation Bible School program in another country.
Help our international partners as a teacher in one of their schools.
