JOIN THE AMITY TOUR 2012

Focus Location: Hunan with a stop in Beijing

When : April 18 - 26, 2012

Purpose 

"Easter Tours" are organized by the Amity Foundation in cooperation with churches in China. This annual activity allows Amity to bring an international delegation to visit churches and Amity Foundation projects in various parts of China for the purpose of strengthening links between Chinese churches and the ecumenical community. Each year, a group of 12 to 20 people, mostly church representatives from Europe, North America and Asia travel to one particular province, visiting urban and rural congregations, and meeting with lay Christians, church leaders, academics and religious affairs officials at various levels.

 

Focus on Hunan  

Hunan, the birth province of the country’s former Chairman Mao Zedong, is located in South-Central China.  Rice cultivation is important here though 80% of the province is covered by mountains and hills. The pace of economic and social development is relatively slow when compared to other provinces in China. To bridge gaps, Amity started a great variety of rural development projects in the province in mid 1990s and has brought positive changes to lives of local people. Many of the projects have been carried out in collaboration with local Protestant churches, which are becoming more and more willing to step out of the church buildings and bear witness of their faith.

 

Beijing   

Arriving in Beijing on April 18, 2012, participants will meet with Chinese church leaders and Christian youth, scholars and religious affairs officials. They will also have the opportunity to visit the Forbidden City. The group will fly to Hunan and visit local churches, Amity and church-run projects.  Participants depart for home on April 26th from Beijing.

 

Costs US$ 1,200

This includes domestic airfare, food and accommodation (3- to 4-Star, shared rooms) and local transport in Beijing and Hunan. For single occupancy, add US$ 200 per person for the trip. The price quoted does not include the international airfare between country of origin and Beijing, visa fees or travel insurance which you should take out as needed .
