Literacy Program in the Dry Season

Since our last prayer information the literacy program has continued and gone well in several areas. In other areas programs have been cancelled or delayed because of limited lodging and equipment because buildings were destroyed during the 1998 war. During dry season, which starts shortly, there is the possibility of putting up makeshift shelters to house large numbers of participants. Some of the classes are being moved to other areas where larger groups of people can be accommodated. During the June, July, and August dry season women will be devoting considerable time to field preparation. That is particularly true in late July and August as rains start again in September.

Prayer requests:
* Pray for the literacy program as it continues in June and July.
* Miriam has been elected to the leadership of the women in the Vanga area. Pray for her as she serves in that role.
* Timothee and Ed have concluded negotiations with Presbyterian donors for continued research focusing on improved manioc, peanuts, cowpeas and oil palms. Lusekele has the goal of distributing 15,000 palm seeds in September. Pray that the discovery of better varieties will be effective. Pray also for efficient distribution of the improved palm seeds that they will go to people who will care for them properly.
* For a year Lusekele has been trying to get an affordable pump appropriate to their needs. They had hoped to find it locally. Pray that they can find a pump in time to be useful during this dry season, which should be starting now.
* Pray for Ed and Miriam as they juggle a variety of responsibilities.
* Pray that in the midst of the various activities the Holy Spirit will give power for their Christian witness to shine through in a way that will give God a great deal of pleasure.
