Map of China
Dates: July 9 - August 6, 2012
Cost: $1250*
Missionaries: Judith Sutterlin
At this point in history, English skills are necessary for social and economic development, and this is reflected in nearly every level of China's educational system. Developed urban areas attract skilled teachers and offer better educational resources, so urban students often out-perform their rural counter-parts in many important subjects, including English.
Amity believes something remarkable happens when people of different cultures start to talk to one another. Language becomes an exchange of ideas rather than a text to be memorized. Culture becomes something to be touched, tasted and observed rather than simply imagined. Even 20 short days of this kind of person-to-person communication can be enough to change a life in a way that no text or course ever could.
What may seem like small seeds of friendship and communication are sown in these classes, but together they point the way to a greater understanding between cultures.
There are several requirements for team member, set by Amity. In brief:
~You must be 70 yrs or younger if you are a new volunteer with Amity, or 75 or younger if returning.
~You must refrain from any activity of proselytizing. You will be sharing the love of Jesus through your presence!
~You must be in good health and willing to work in tough, hot conditions.
~You must be covered by medical insurance.
~Volunteers should not plan to bring children when they come.
~You must have a college degree. If most of the team members are experienced teachers, the team can include someone who has not completed a degree.
Full Requirements can be found on the Amity website:
www.Amityfoundation.org
*Cost may change due to fluctuations in world economy. Cost does not include airfare, visa, passport or immunizations. Cost does include all room, board, and transportation in China.
